CNNCTS team members from San Diego State University and Climate Science Alliance celebrated California Native American Day at the unveiling of “Return of the Kumeyaay Creator” by Johnny Bear Contreras.
The Collaborative of Native Nations for Climate Transformation (CNNCTS) celebrated California Native American Day on September 27, 2024 at the unveiling of “Return of the Kumeyaay Creator”, with CNNCTS team members from San Diego State University and Climate Science Alliance in attendance.
This stunning sculpture created by Johnny Bear Contreras serves as the latest piece in his series “the Living Land Acknowledgement”, a sculptural art project at SDSU that aims to share the story of the Kumeyaay people and their continued presence on campus and in the region. Johnny Bear spoke about the work at the unveiling celebration and shared how “Each ray of the sun represents a generation,” he said. “These are all just different aspects of our life that has been, that is and (that’ll) be the future.”
